Original factory pilot operating handbooks are often 20 to 30 years old. That is when the last small Cessna training aircraft were produced. ASA wisely observed that the original POHs could be greatly improved and updated. These manuals, for example, describe all improved components and systems (components which have had to be modified in operational aircraft after extensive in-service analysis showed that original components needed modification). For example, defective Cessna seat adjuster tracks, about which nothing is said in the original Cessna manuals, have usually been modified in service. Also most older aircraft were designed originally to run on grades of fuel which are no longer available.

The manuals are provided since it is difficult for the average pilot to learn the basics of Cessna 152 systems and methods without an original AFM. However, they are not approved as an AFM.
